Let the Cleaning Begin
Written by Administrator

Lorain's Spring cleaning begins!

On May 18th the council approved an ordinance that allows the Boards of Health, in conjunction with the Fire Department and Building Department, to inspect foreclosed, abandoned or blighted property and begin the process to tear them down. We have all seen the buildings, unfortunately the city's $3 million portion of the National Stablization Program funds will not nearly rid us of all the nuiscance properties, but at least we have a start.

If you would like to report a home please send me a message through my contact page and I will forward it on.

Lorain a Step Closer to New Preservation Areas
Written by Administrator

May 26, 2009

Lorain is one step closer to allowing more than one historic preservation district to be in the city. Tuesdays public hearing on my amendment to the Design Review Board and its regulations will allow for the creation of new boards and to allow representation from each of those new zones. The ordinance will also allow for the creation of city designated landmarks.

The old version of the ordinance spelled out a way to make a new district or create a landmark but did not allow it a place to be placed within the city's codified ordinances. The revisions I have suggested, over a year ago, will do just that.

The public hearing is the last step before the ordinance goes before the council to either send to committee or pass.

The next step is identifying landmarks and preservation districts within the city and actively preserve our historic treasures.
